February 20th, 2009Ra Ra Riot

The aftermath of the tour was a Machine clearing his sick from the MD of Heist Or Hit’s bathroom floor. This is why they don’t usually sell cocktails in pint glasses. But after the shows before the band more than deserved their blowout.

The London gig at King’s College was incredible from start to finish.  First up was Manchester band Airship who have the practice room opposite The Answering Machine’s and who make epic wonderful music that has rightly started a bit of a manager/agent/label frenzy of late. Airship are lovely lads and we really enjoyed their show.

It was a hard act to follow but TAM did a wonderful job. The tiredness and tour long hangover was shaken off from the opening beat of Rose and from there the band blasted away the sell out crowd.  By first light, the first review was in and here’s a quick quote: “They’re like the Strokes if they’d been to Art School and didn’t have money, together with Franz Ferdinand if they’d bunked off Art School or if they’d not spent years poncing around”. Thanks to There Goes The Fear for their fine taste and quick writing skillz.

Finally Ra Ra Riot proved exactly why they have sent America crazy for their Arcade Fire mixed with Vampire Weekend sounds. This was the first night of the tour where the sound system at the venue could give us everything the band had to offer and they blew all of us away.  They have been nothing but lovely people to The Answering Machine and a pleasure to watch play over the tour.
