January 21st, 2009Artrocker and Jon Kennedy.
The brilliant Ric Rawlins at Artrocker Online has posted a review of our gig at Vibe Bar last week, in which he describes us as:
“Smart and sexy, fresh and wild, budding young indie bunny rabbits”
Can’t argue with that!
You can read the review in full HERE.
Keep an eye out on the Artrocker site, coz those guys are ACE!
In other news, Cliffer is in John Kennedy’s Top 5 in his X-Posure show on XFM:
X-Posure Big One: Gold Teeth ‘Everybody’
The Answering Machine ‘Cliffer’
Bonaparte ‘Who Took The Pill?’
Favours For Sailors ‘Erode My Empire’
Future Of The Left ‘The Hope That House Built’
If you’re listening to his show then please give him a text to request it. That man is a legend, and he has a lovely face (and an unbeatable collection of stripey jumpers).

January 21st, 2009The Answering Machine – About
The Answering Machine formed in 2005. Originally, a three piece with a drum machine the band have bloomed into a dynamic four piece with the inclusion of Ben Perry on Drums. Rising to critical acclaim supporting the likes of Good Shoes, Rumble Strips and Dirty Pretty Things, three singles and two UK tours the band have recently finished recording their debut album ‘Another City, Another Sorry’ with Dave Eringa (Idlewild, Manic Street Preachers). Appearances in Artrocker, the NME, the Guardian, V Magazine and on BBC Radio 1, Radio 6 and Channel 4’s JD Sets have earned them celebrity fans such as Hedie Semaine and Rick Edwards and made their album eagerly awaited.
January 20th, 2009Cliffer!
We have finally set a release date for our debut single, ‘Cliffer’. It is due out on the 9th March, with a mini UK tour beginning on the same day. We are currently sifting through a few concept ideas for the video, which will hopefully be filmed in the next 2 weeks. As soon as it’s completed we’ll get it up on to You Tube for you to have a chuckle.
The artwork for all of our upcoming Singles and LP has been put together by our friend Nicola Chipman (www.flickr.com/photos/clapyourhands) and is a series of photographs of Manchester architecture, including a skyline shot of the city for the album cover. The design and layout of the sleeves is by the rather amazing Sean Mort.
The March tour dates are:
Cardiff Ifor Bach (March 9)
Manchester Ruby Lounge (March 10)
London Hoxton Bar And Kitchen (March 11)
Newcastle The End (March 12)
Edinburgh Sneaky Pete’s (March 13)
Liverpool Evol (March 14)
The tour is a ‘rotating headline’ with Flashguns and CasioKids. Should be a reet blast so get yourself down!
Bedtime,

December 8th, 2008The Girls are back in town
It occurred to me last week that the last three albums I have bought have all been by three very different women. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not some bra burning feminist who believes us women should stop shaving their legs and throw away their deodourants and who will only listen to music made by women and read Germain Greer books. I just think that we should celbrate the fact that after the chart dominance of Kate Nash, Katie Melua and my no. 1 pet hate Duffy that some really fricking cool music is being made by young women.
So here are my top tips for female fronted music from 2008
MIA – Paper planes
This song was probably the sound track to our time mixing the album in London. Thousands of impressions of gunshots and cash registers ensued (along with a debate between the lads as to whether they would or wouldn’t)
Santogold – Lights Out
I know this album has been out for ages but i have only just got around to buying it and didn’t realise how much of it i had already heard on various adverts and tv shows. This is my favourite single, it’s just pure pop gold
Ladyhawke – Dusk til Dawn
This has been one of my favourite records of the year, irresistably catchy, a small touch of Cyndi Lauper and some ace clothes.
Unfortunately the kind people at Youtube won’t let me embed the video but here is the link

I hope you enjoyed my little ramble

November 18th, 2008Mixing it Up
Hello there
It’s answering machine bassist and table tennis extrordinaire Gemma here.
After three weeks recording in our countryside retreat Warren House Farm it was finally time to pack up and head down to the big smoke to get involved in some mixing. I was sad to have to leave my beloved table tennis table behind, but after a while, winning all the time became a little dull! And i’m sure repeatedly losing to a girl was doing nothing for the lads’ confidence levels. So off to London with us where we must survive on our own, prepare all our own meals, navigate public transport and even spend money from our own pockets.
Although i’m not in the studio for the next three days (alas i write this from my office desk) i can imagine that currently pat and martin are sat with a bottle of evian in hand swapping the same old crude jokes with Dave whilst getting quite excited at how amazing things are sounding. After so long imagining what our debut album is going to be like it feels a little strange to be increasingly close to actually finding out. Ideas about artwork are getting banded about and even the scary question of what is actually going to be on the album has been raised. God knows how we’ll pick the first single!
Right this has taken me about an hour to write as i keep having to tab off screen everytime my boss walks in and pretend like i’m doing some work (in case your wondering i haven’t actually done any work today, unless you count www.yearbookyourself.com as work, hours of fun!)
Coming soon: A picture of Ben and Martin in matching woolly jumpers looking like two metrosexual guys from a 1970’s catalogue. It must not be missed!
Gemma x
