Tuesday Track – 29th January 2013

In 1971, at the “first” Glastonbury festival, as The Edgar Broughton Band finished their epic set, the late DJ Andy Dunkley famously announced over the PA, “Fuck me old boots, What a set!”. A tad radical as this was of course in the days when ‘blast’ was bad swearing. What does this have to do with today’s Tuesday Track ? Well last night, whilst thinking about what to choose for today’s track, I had a mind to give another blast of The Answering Machine’s 2009 debut album, Another City, Another Sorry. As It’s Over, It’s Over, It’s Over, started, I heard myself saying “Fuck me old boots, What a track!”

Clearly Andy’s exclamation 42 years ago remains with me but this IS a great track after all. Oh, and The Edgar Broughton Band’s set was pretty epic also.

Today’s Tuesday Track is a double; a double Dutch sort of. Over the years, there has always been a special bond between The Answering Machine and their close friends, Dutch Uncles. Therefore to celebrate the release of Dutch Uncles new album, Out Of Touch In The Wind (Memphis Industries, 14th Jan), we take you back to two tracks from The Answering Machine, Oklahoma from their first album and Animals from their second album both remixed by the talented Dutch Uncles.

Today’s Tuesday Track comes from Cincinnati stalwarts Bad Veins. The track ‘If Then’ comes from their vastly underrated second album and is a real gem. From the staccato cellos at at the start, the production expands into an epic track.

For our first Tuesday Track of the new year, we take you back to 2010 when Heist came across an amazing band who were at that time supporting The Answering Machine. Clearly destined for a major place in music, Sheffield’s The Crookes agreed to release their second single on Heist Or Hit Records on limited edition vinyl. Since that time, the band have gone on from strength to strength wowing audiences around the world. Indeed the breaking news is that audiences in the USA will be seeing the band really soon as they are scheduled to appear at the SXSW in Austin in March.

It might be Christmas but this track is definitely no turkey. Taken from The Answering Machine’s sophomore album, ‘Lifeline’ the albums title track demonstrates a band at the top of their game.
