It’s been my safety fall back option for a while but I’m starting to doubt myself.
“Hey, so who’s your favourite band?”
“Radiohead, always Radiohead”
But on reflection, how often do I listen to them? Well, I know the records very well so don’t have to listen to them every day. In Rainbows does get a couple of plays a month I’d hazard to say. More importantly, when the band announce a Leeds headline show, I have not even considered to even trying to go. Surely a favourite band would evoke some sort of response? But nothing. I think it’s largely because wherever Radiohead do play now, it’s never going to be how I’d like it. Leeds festival and Lancashire Cricket Club are not going to see a perfect performance so why spend £50+? Where as when I saw Thom and Jonny at London’s Koko venue a couple of years back, it was perfection and wonderful.
All this makes me consider, if not them, then who? Frankly, no band have caused such a difference to my life as Radiohead, nor have I obsessed over a band in quite the same manor. Using my parents old dial up connection to download live tracks/b-sides or anything. (Not that we at Heist Or Hit recommend illegal downloading any of our artists please). I think I might pop the Bends on this afternoon and see how it goes.
