RELEASE NEW TRACK ‘MISBEHAVE’
ON HEIST OR HIT RECORDS“If you’re a fan of The Smiths, or The Coral at their most melodic, then this may be right up your street” The Guardian FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ON 14TH JULY 2014 “Do you want to misbehave?” will be the question on everyone’s lips after hearing the first single from Sheffield balladeers High Hazels’ upcoming debut album. The release of ‘Misbehave’ on Heist or Hit Records on 15th September will undoubtedly mark the beginning of something special for James Leesley (vocals/guitar), Scott Howes (guitar), Paul Barlow (bass guitar) and Anthony Barlow (drums). The steel city is renowned for producing songwriters of mordant wit and winsome austere, and High Hazels are no exception. They are born storytellers. The young quartet of brothers and childhood friends thoughtfully perfected their craft in the backwaters of Handsworth. These are boys who own chest waders, read the Angling Times, and go to their Nan’s for Sunday dinner, but they’ve traded melancholy for a flirtatious groove on ‘Misbehave’. Their intention was to keep it simple and let the psychedelic guitar do the sweet-talking. The “debauchery-tinted party tune” effuses the raw vigor of RnB and ‘60s songs, inspired by many Saturday nights spent at King Bee in their hometown. “Lyrically, it tries to capture the excitement and nervousness that often comes when pursuing saucy companionship,” says Leesley. “We wanted it to be a fresh and exciting song that would sound equally good sat listening intently at home, or at 3am in a club,” adds P. Barlow. Their intention was to keep it simple and let the psychedelic guitar do the sweet-talking. ‘Misbehave’ follows the release of their debut single ‘Hearts Are Breaking’ on 7” in 2013, and their debut EP ‘In The Half Light’, which was released in April. High Hazels are set to swoon and give you a feeling you can’t shake.
‘Misbehave’ is released on Heist or Hit Records (HEIST075) on 15th September
